Elegant Colonial-Style Casa - San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

About San Miguel

The beautiful and historic town of San Miguel de Allende was founded in 1542 by a Franciscan priest, Fray Juan de San Miguel.  Proud of its past as a center for the defiant revolutionaries who fought for independence from Spain in 1810, the town takes its name from that rebellion’s most illustrious leader, Ignacio Allende.

Today, San Miguel is an important cultural community with arts and crafts centers, language schools and year-round workshops offering classes in dance, painting, drama, writing, weaving and cooking, to name just a few.

There are regular plays, concerts, exhibitions and cultural sightseeing tours to the neighbouring colonial towns and villages.

The shops, galleries and restaurants and the friendliness of the Mexican people make San Miguel a must for discriminating visitors who seek a slice of colonial Mexican culture and lifestyle.

The Mexican Government has declared the entire town a national historic site, ensuring that the cobblestone streets and colonial architecture are preserved. Unesco has recently named San Miguel a World Heritage Site.

With its fascinating blend of history, charm and culture, it is no wonder that San Miguel is the destination of choice for visitors seeking the real Mexico.
